Stuff I Like

As I was discovering new music it was still hard to admit that I liked something other than Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin, and more.  I can remember hearing this song and thinking that sounds good but I'll never admit it. Good music is good music despite how its classified.

Some other music that was being released in 1982 included:

Prince

Duran Duran

Marvin Gaye

The Clash

Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name

What a difference of styles and music.

At about the same time I discovered there was more than Rock And Roll with Shannon, I also went in the opposite direction and discovered Country Music.  Not  a big surprise in a town like Minden.  Alabama had just released their "Feels So Right" Album that featured multiple songs that charted. The title song Feels So Right led off the album.

Followed by Love In The First Degreee.

In addition to this album Alabama had more hits including:

Mountain Music

Roll On

If You're Gonna Play In Texas

The Closer You Get

So much more to go in the Alabama catalogue.

I like Rock and Roll.  I like screaming guitars and crashing drums.  When I was 14 I thought that that was all there was.  Then I discovered there was more to music than I thought.  This song started to change what I thought about music and expanded my sonic library.

Music is the soundtrack by which we chronicle our lives.  There are different songs I can associate with different periods of my life. When did I start associating music with specific events, I don't know.  But when I was about 4 years old we had a German Shepherd named Duke.  And whenever we sang this song we would scream Duke (instead of Doo) and the dog would go crazy.  Funny, I always thought it was Duke, Duke , Duke Looking out My Back Door.  Only discovered I was wrong when I looked for the song just now.

Regardless CCR with John Fogerty's voice is what music is all about. Here are some additional CCR/ songs that are what music is all about:

Fortunate Son

Who'll Stop The Rain

Bad Moon On The Risin'

Long As I Can See The Light

And of cours Proud Mary

I was born is New Orleans, a relatively big city in Louisiana. At 12 I moved to a small Northern Louisiana town called Minden. During high school Joan Jett hit it big with "I Love Rock And Roll", but in a small town I always felt that Bad Reputation made more of a social statement.

At some point I lost touch with music.  With age comes wisdom and a whole lot less of time to pay attention to music. The local radio stations I listened to primarily played classic rock. At least the stations I listened to.  Then while driving, my daughter changed the station to a country music station and I heard this song. Only later would I learn this was a song by Kid Rock.  Say what you want about the Kid but this song alone puts him at the top as a song writer .

Here's another Kid Rock song I discovered about the same time that's equally good and shows how much he has improved as a musician.

And a third one just to keep things rolling.
